STAR WARS UNIVERSE - If you haven't watched Disney Plus's The Mandalorian yet, I don't know what you're waiting for. It's only the single biggest thing to hit Star Wars fandom since the last Star Wars thing that was released. Skywalker, somethingorother... What separates this show from everything else that is Star Wars as of late, is that it is wildly successful, loved by critics, and introduced us to one of the greatest characters to ever come out of that universe. We are, of course not referring to the title character. We are referring to The Child.
On a personal note, if this is a spoiler for you, I'm ever so sorry. And I really mean that. Because from my point of view, the introduction to that character was just SO awesome! I genuinely feel bad if you are a Star Wars fan and got robbed of that!
The fans have already given him/her a name. It is the most obvious name of all. And we know this because every single Star Wars fan that saw the character for the first time immediately exclaimed, "Holy crap! It's a baby Yoda!!" And thus was born the colloquial name. There is a reason for this. No one knows what Yoda's species is called. The species name was purposely never revealed. Which is shorthand for, "George Lucas couldn't think of a name for the species." As far as we know there are only two of them, other than this child.
Conveniently the only two we have ever seen on screen are a male and a female. Yoda and Yaddle. Yaddle was the female of Yoda's species that sat on the Jedi Council in the prequels.
Right about now, you are probably noticing that we are getting to the point of the headline. Since we know there are only 2 of these creatures in the entire universe, and they clearly knew each other, and the timing for them to conceive a child that is 50 years old at the time of The Mandalorian (5 years after Return of the Jedi), it stands to reason that Yoda and Yaddle are the parents.
Do we know this for a fact? No. I suppose we are going to have to wait for Jon Favreau to tell us that before it will be established fact. But that is the thoery to which we are clinging.
Speaking of Jon... Disney had better take care of that dude handsomely for the Christmas present he gave them. The success of Disney Plus, by all accounts, seems to be 100% directly related to not just The Mandalorian, but the character that is Baby Yoda. It's been a long time since we've seen the internet explode with pop culture joy at a new character.
I wouldn't even be writing this if I wasn't a fan. Even I got roped in!
